Join the Brodhead Chapter Trout Unlimited in welcoming Tim Flagler as he presents three different fly patterns in an interactive presentation. Tim Flagler has been fly fishing and tying for more than 30 years. He founded Tightline Productions in 1998, a video production company that specializes in promotional and instructional video. He’s known worldwide for his tying videos. Tim’s also a presenter, instructor and guide.
He will tie three flies including a CDC & Elk Caddis, an Egan’s Red Dart and a Jiggly Pat’s.
Below are the recipes he will use if you would like to tie along with Tim.
CDC & Elk Caddis
Hook: Fulling Mill, FM 5050, size 16.
Thread: Brown, Veevus 16/0.
Abdomen: Tan CDC.
Wing: Elk body hair, light (bull).
Legs: Tan CDC.
Lance Egan’s Red Dart
Hook: Lightning Strike JF2 barbless jig hook, size 14.
Bead: Gold slotted tungsten bead, 7/64″.
Weight: Lead-free round wire, .020.
Adhesive #1: Superglue or Fly Tyer’s Z-Ment.
Thread: Red, UTC 70 Denier.
Tails: Red saddle-hackle fibers.
Rib: Pearl Sulky Holoshimmer metallic thread.
Body: Peacock herl.
Collar 1: Brown saddle hackle.
Collar 2: Pink Ice dub.
Adhesive #2: Head cement or Sally Hansen Hard-As-Nails.
Jiggly Pat’s
Rear Hook: 2X-long nymph/hopper hook, Lightning Strike NH7, size 12.
Thread: Black, 6/0 or 140-denier.
Body: Variegated black and coffee chenille, medium.
Tails: Black round rubber legs, small.
Adhesive #1: Head cement (here, Sally Hansen Hard-As-Nails).
Front Hook: Jig hook, Lightning Strike JF2, size 10.
Thread: Black, 6/0 or 140-denier.
Head: Black nickel slotted tungsten bead, 5/32-inch.
Weight: Lead-free round wire, .020.
Connection: 8 lb test leader material.
Adhesive #2: Superglue (here, Fly Tyers Z-Ment).
Body: Variegated black and coffee chenille, medium.
Legs: Black round rubber legs, small.
Adhesive #3: Head cement (here, Sally Hansen Hard-As-Nails).
